Kindle for Christmas? Better hurry up
December is here and Christmas is around the corner. If you are thinking of getting a Kindle to give for this holiday season you’d better buy it soon. 2 years ago the Kindle was sold out way before Christmas.
Last year Amazon said that they had enough stock for the season… but they sold out again! If you wanted to get a Kindle last Christmas season this is the message you would see:
Due to heavy customer demand, Kindle is sold out. Please ORDER KINDLE NOW to reserve your place in line. We prioritize orders on a first come, first served basis. This item will arrive after December 24
Actually, the Kindles were sold out for several weeks, they started shipping in late January of the following year. If someone wanted to buy a Kindle last Xmas the only way was Ebay… and paying 3 times more for it (I saw auctions for Kindles with a price tag of $900!!)
Don’t let this happen to you… better safe than sorry, if you want a Kindle, or want to give it as a gift, buy it today. It is ranked as one of the most popular gadgets for 2009.

Refurbished Kindle Dx in stock!
**** UPDATE – REFURBISHED KINDLES ARE OUT OF STOCK RIGHT NOW 2010 ****
Unfortunately the refurbished Kindle DX is not available. Don’t believe me? Check it out youself:
refurbished Kindle DX Amazon page refurbished Kinde 2 Amazon page
The new Global-international Kindle Dx is out now making any refurbished models obsolete. This means that there will no longer be any refurbished kindle DX models out until the new model starts shipping out and getting refurbished, which could take months.
Take the Kindle 2 model for example. As soon as the new Kindle 2 global-international came out all the refurbished Kindle 2 items were no longer available. The Kindle 2 global was launched on October 7th, and 5 months later there is still no refurbished model being sold.
So, if you are trying to buy a refurbished Kindle you can either wait for months and hope that some day they are available (Amazon has not said when or if they will be in stock again), or you might as well just buy a new one.

The refurbished kindle Dx models are fullfilled by Amazon, which means that Amazon handles all customer service and product returns for “Fulfilled by Amazon” items, including refurbs.

Refurbished Kindles – Are they good?
Refurbishment can be defined as the process of maintenance or minor repair of an item, either aesthetically or mechanically.
“Refurbished,” in reference to electronic items such as the Kindle, means that the Kindle was returned to Amazon either because the customer simply didn’t want it or a minor problem was found. Before re-selling the equipment, Amazon inspects and certifies the Kindle and sells it at a discount.
By law, in the US you can’t sell a Refurbished item as if it was a new product, which is why they are relabeled as refurbished or refreshed kindles even if they are good-as-new.
Refurbished kindles can be sold at a cheap and affordable price. They usually are sold at much lower prices than newer products and they look and work just a new one.
Refurbished items are generally thought to be cheap and poorly fixed products. However, these products have nothing wrong with them, they were simply exchanged over incompatibility or are cosmetically damaged. Most mechanical fixes are by trained technicians who work for Amazon.
With a refurbished Kindle you also get what is known as “Fulfilled by Amazon” service. This means that your kindles are shipped from an Amazon Fulfillment Center to you. After you place an order, the carrier, ship date, and estimated delivery date for your package will be listed in Your Account. Amazon also handles all customer service and product returns for “Fulfilled by Amazon” items, so you are getting an excellent deal. You also get 30 days return period and one year warranty, just as with a new Kindle.
For these reasons refurbished Kindles don’t last long in stock. If you are thinking of getting one you might as well place your order now that they are available. Here are the links for each model of refurbished kindle readers:
Refurbished Kindle 1 – $149.99
Refurbished Kindle 2 – $219.00
Refurbished Kindle DX – $399.99

Just checked the Amazon website for the Kindle DX and this is what is says:
KINDLE DX In Stock.
Just a few hours ago it still had the ”expected to ship in 2 to 3 weeks” message so it seems the new stock of Kindle DXs has arrived! You can choose between free shipping, which takes a few days, or if you are in a hurry you can use the One-Day Shipping at checkout and have your KindleDX in your hands by tomorrow.
Kindle 2 Shipping Now
I received an email saying that my Kindle 2 shipped yesterday. And I noticed several back ordered Kindles on my web site have shipped. I just checked and the Kindle 2 is in stock and shipping now.
Hopefully Amazon will be able to keep up with the orders this time and keep the Kindle 2 in stock. Nothing takes the fun out of an impulse purchase then a 6 week back log on shipping.
When my new Kindle 2 arrives I’ll make a video of it so everyone who hasn’t ordered one yet can see what it looks like and how it functions. But for now here is what Amazon has to say about the new Kindle 2.
Another cool feature of the Kindle 2 is the new read to me feature. If you are reading a book on the Kindle and you want to turn away and look at something else the Kindle will read out loud to you. Then when you want to start reading again you can pick right up where it left off. Early rumors were that this sounded like a robot voice. But I’ve heard some early demos and it actually sounds pretty good.
The Kindle2 Is Here
There have been so many rumors about the Kindle 2 . It’s time to set the record straight. First off, the Kindle 2
will be released on February 24, 2009. You can preorder the Kindle2 now.
The orders will be prioritized on a first come first serve basis. Kindle 1 owners who order by midnight tonight will have first priority though.
If you have ordered a Kindle 1 and have not received it yet, you will be getting a Kindle 2 . In fact I’m ordering my Kindle 2
today. The Kindle 2 looks better than ever. I just can’t wait. Now for the improved features:
Slim: Just over 1/3 of an inch, as thin as most magazines
Lightweight: At 10.2 ounces, lighter than a typical paperback
Wireless: 3G wireless lets you download books right from your Kindle, anytime, anywhere; no monthly fees, service plans, or hunting for Wi-Fi hotspots
Books in Under 60 Seconds: Get books delivered in less than 60 seconds; no PC required
Improved Display: Reads like real paper; now boasts 16 shades of gray for clear text and even crisper images
More Storage: Take your library with you; holds over 1,500 books
Faster Page Turns: 20% faster page turns
Read-to-Me: With the new Text-to-Speech feature, Kindle can read every book, blog, magazine, and newspaper out loud to you
Large Selection: Over 230,000 books plus U.S. and international newspapers, magazines, and blogs available
Low Book Prices: New York Times Best Sellers and New Releases $9.99, unless marked otherwise
Kindle 2 Order Now
I just ordered my Kindle 2 , actually I should say preorder. And the estimated shipping date is March 2nd. I’m really excited about this. Besides having an easy way to download best sellers and newspapers.
I can convert all of my ebooks to Kindle format then I can read them without sitting at my computer. And I won’t be filling up anymore bookshelfs. I currently have 4 bookshelfs with a total of 18 shelfs. That is plenty of books until I get the mansion.
Kindle Shipping Almost Caught Up
Just a quick note to let everyone know that the Kindle shipping estimate is now 5 to 7 weeks. Most regular Amazon customers know that when you order something from Amazon, that is, if it’s in stock, it usually winds up on your doorstep right away.
Unfortunately Amazon has been out of stock, and behind with shipping Kindle’s since Oprah made Kindle her favorite gadget in October. The good news is that the Kindle, as of today, will ship in 5 to 7 weeks. Which means that it is just a few weeks before the Kindles will be shipping right away. Which is what we’ve wanted all along.
More Good Kindle News
As of today the Kindle shipping time is down to 6-8 weeks. So the backlog is almost over and we should soon be able to purchase Kindles without having to wait for weeks for it to ship. Almost instant gratification. Now doesn’t that feel better?
