Is your Kindle DX frozen?
How to reboot your Kindle DX
Doesn’t happen very often, but sometimes your Kindle DX might just “freeze”, where the screen seems to be stuck and the buttons won’t respond. You need to reset it but it just doesn’t seem to do anything.
What to do?
Easy: Slide the power switch over and hold it for thirty seconds until it starts to reboot. 30 seconds seems like a long time, but believe me, if you don’t hold the power swith long enough your Kindle DX will simply not reboot.
Kindle ereader Now 299$
Great news for Amazon Kindle fans. If you have been holding off on your Kindle book reader purchase now is a great time to buy. The price of the regular 6 inch 2nd generation Kindle has been lowered to 299$. Not only has the price dropped from 359$ to 299$ but they are in stock and if you order early and choose next day shipping you can have your new Kindle book reader in your hands by tomorrow.
The Kindle is ready to go as soon as you unzip it from it’s special Kindle packaging. It’s intuitive and easy to get started, no manuals to have to read. Just follow the quick start instructions on your screen and read a personalized welcome message form Jeff Bezos and you are ready to go in a couple of minutes.
Another 60 seconds later, and you have downloaded one of 300,000 ebooks and best sellers, available on the ever expanding Kindle book selections. Or, if your unsure about what you would like to read next, you can download the beginning of all Kindle selections, read through it and decide if you want to continue reading further and make a purchase.
The regular Kindle ereader is available now and ready to go. It’s also great for taking on planes and trips and vacation reading. At this new price it’s bound to sell out as well. So, if your sitting on the fence about getting that Kindle ebook reader, now might be the time to decide.
BTW, remember that the Kindle is available ONLY AT AMAZON.COM. You can’t buy it at a shop, only at Amazon’s website. Click here to be taken there.

Kindle DX available again
Just checked the Amazon website for the Kindle DX and this is what is says:
KINDLE DX In Stock.
Just a few hours ago it still had the ”expected to ship in 2 to 3 weeks” message so it seems the new stock of Kindle DXs has arrived! You can choose between free shipping, which takes a few days, or if you are in a hurry you can use the One-Day Shipping at checkout and have your KindleDX in your hands by tomorrow.
Is the Kindle DX worth the price? Or is the Kindle 2 enough?
The biggest differences between the DX and the K2 are:
- size of device/screen
- native PDF support vs. PDF’s needing to be converted
- rotating screen vs. standard portrait orientation
Obviously, the DX is considerably larger than the K2. Prehaps you would prefer to view/read books with a much larger screen that is virtually similar in size to a hard cover book. If so, than the DX would be for you. Text books, manuals, PDF’s and other types of similar reading material are what the DX, with its vast screen size, was truly designed for, but it can certainly be used for simple book reading. Otherwise, the K2’s screen is “approximately” the size of a mass paperback novel, and is a size that I am personally comfortable with. In addition to its larger size, the DX is a good bit heavier than the K2 as well, which may be an issue for you, as some have commented about the “awkwardness” of holding the DX when reading due to its weight, as well as its thin design, which makes it like holding a really heavy magazine.
The DX offers native PDF support, meaning you can load PDF docs straight onto the DX for viewing. With the K2, you have to have the PDF docs converted to a compatible format for viewing on the K2. It’s a simple process, but one that you might find tedious if your big on wanting to read/view PDF’s on your Kindle.
And finally, the DX has a rotating screen – for both portrait viewing and landscape viewing – better to view images/graphs/charts with, as well as better to view PDF’s, and even read books with if you prefer.
Top 5 Kindle DX Covers
The Kindle ships without a cover, and it would be foolish not to protect your investment. Amazon has a wide selection of covers for the Kindle DX. These are the top 5 best selling covers available right now.

Amazon Kindle DX Leather Cover This the official cover for the Kindle DX. It was designed by Amazon and has a cover hinge that secures the Kindle DX in place. The exterior is genuine black leather and a soft grey suede in the inside protects the Kindle DX’s screen. The DX cover has a strong magnet that keeps it shut
OCTO Faux Leather Slip Cover for Amazon Kindle DX It is made from dark brown faux leather with soft grey microfibre internal lining. This case isn’t as advance as the book cover looking ones. It doesn’t attach to the kindle in anyways, its simply something to slide it into for basic protection. If thats what you want, then this is perfect. If you have a DX, don’t want animal skin, and like the slipcase format, this is a good economical choice.
Belkin Neoprene Sleeve Case for Kindle DX the case is very light-weight but nicely padded, easy to zip on and off, and looks great. Made of neoprene with faux-leather accents for added grip
Executive Jacket for DX The leather is thick and rich feeling, and the inside is very well tailored and completed. It has a four-point mounting system to hold Kindle DX in place and you can pick your favorite color: Marbled Red, Pebbled Black, Smooth Mocha, Pebbled Fuchsia
Patagonia Reader Case for Kindle DX Water-resistant, 100% recycled polyester shell. It is pretty light at only 6.7oz and has a webbing strap that you can loop around your hand for extra stability while using your Kindle DX with the case open

How to read in the tub with your Kindle
Nothing is as relaxing as a nice bubble bath in the tub while reading a great book. But the Kindle, as any electronic device, will get ruined if you accidentally drop it in the water. The perfect (and cheap!) solution for this is the Kwik Tek Dry Pak Multi-Purpose Case. It is a clear 9-Inch x 12-Inch plastic bag that you can seal and have no more worries about water touching your Kindle. It is big enough to hold either the Kindle 2 or even the Kindle Dx. The Kindle 1 will fit also, although it will be a pretty tight fit. It’s a simple product, easy to use, and it does exactly what it’s supposed to do: keep valuables dry with nary a leak. Your Kindle won’t ever get wet.
It is also great for taking your Kindle outdoors, on a boat, or to the beach since it will keep the sand out. And don’t worry, there is no glare caused by the bag so you can read with no problems.
Kindle DX starts shipping again
Several members of Kindle forums on the net are starting to post that they have received notes from Amazon telling them that their Kindle DX ereader has been shipped.
Member “lmk2045″ for example has posted this
I received my shipping confirmation this afternoon from Amazon. It is shipping from their Elizabethtown, KY warehouse and should arrive tomorrow via FedEx.
So, it seems the new batch of Kindle DX’s has arrived and is starting to roll out. Might be the perfect time to order your Kindle Dx. Although Amazon’s site still shows a waiting period of 1 to 2 weeks, many forum posters are saying that the waiting period was actually much lower
Kindle DX Sold Out

Once again the newest Kindle is sold out. There is now a 4 to 6 week wait before the Kindle DX will ship. Early adopters and those who pre-ordered their DX’s can enjoy actually having one. Just in time for vacation. If you were sitting on the fence about getting a DX and think you may want one, you may want to put your order in. If past history is any indication then the DX will continue to be out of stock as new orders come in, and new inventory is shipped.
So, by getting your order in now you will be sure to have your DX for the fall when school starts. Plus, what’s more fun then sitting outside on a brisk autumn day reading text books and pdf files on your Kindle DX? OK, lot’s of things, but the DX is still pretty cool. If you aren’t that interested in reading PDF files and technical documents, and just want a lightweight ebook reader then you can still get the Kindle 2 which was shipped in February. In fact if you order early and choose next day shipping you can have the regular Kindle by tomorrow.
It’s also not to late to shop for the latest Kindle accessories and to browse the ever increasing book supply. Amazon has a large selection of Kindle Covers that are worth taking a look at. If you want a DX and can’t wait a month you may be able to find one available on eBay, but you will pay a premium price for the convenience of getting a sold out item now. Unless you are having some kind of Kindle DX emergency, it’s probably best to put your order in and wait the month or so. Good Luck!
