Kindle 2 now 259

Woke up this morning to find out that the US-only version of the Kindle 2 reader is no longer available. Amazon now has merged it with the international version.
What does this mean to you? Well, great news! If you want to buy a Kindle2 it will now cost you $20 less than yesterday.

If you have recently purchased a Kindle for the old $279 price you should be getting an email from Amazon saying something like this:

Good news! Due to strong customer demand for our newest Kindle with U.S. and international wireless, we are consolidating our family of 6″ Kindles. As part of this consolidation, we are lowering the price of the Kindle you just purchased from $279 down to $259. You don’t need to do anything to get the lower price–we are automatically issuing you a $20 refund. This refund should be processed in the next few days and will appear as a credit on your next billing stament

So this is a great time to get a Kindle.

Wow, lots of news today!

Lets get started: First of all, the Kindle 2, or Kindle second generation, has dropped its price form $299 to $259. There is also a new version of the Kindle which is designed to work  around the world. No more US restrictions! This model is sold for $279 and will be available in a few more days. If you are interested you’d better place your order now, since Amazon says “We prioritize orders on a first come, first served basis.”

Notice anything strange in the above list? Yes…  Canada is not listed!! I don’t know why, but there is still no way for Canadians to get a Kindle from Amazon.

Right now if you try to order a Kindle in Canada you will get this:

“Unfortunately, we are currently unable to ship Kindles or offer Kindle content in Canada. We are working to make Kindle available to our Canadian customers as soon as possible.”

I am sure there will be an update on this soon so be sure to check back, I’ll let you know as soon as there is more news about this. Shouldn’t take long before the Kindle in Canada is available.
